“Do you believe in the Son of God?” John 9:35 NKJV
After healing a blind man, Jesus asked him if he believed in the Son of God.
The healed man was willing but was unaware who the Son of God was.
Jesus told him that he was talking to him.
“Then he said, “ ‘Lord, I believe!’ And he worshiped Him.” John 9:38 NKJV
The One who gave this man physical sight also gave him spiritual sight. He gave sight to see who He was and the man believed Jesus and worshiped Him since he now knew who He was.
The man didn’t just know about Jesus and what miracles He could do, but Jesus revealed Himself personally to this man. He knew Jesus intimately with opened eyes and a heart of faith. The man who had been given physical sight had been washed in the blood of the Lamb who was about to be sacrificed for sinners.
Jesus made this miracle into a spiritual object lesson.
Those who once did not see will see when they are touched by the grace of Christ.
Those who think that they can see by their own innate resources are those who are really blind and need to receive spiritual sight.
It was only by the work of Christ that this man could see who He was.
“that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day” John 9:3-4 NKJV
Christ Jesus applied to this blind man His work and merit. He came to bring salvation to mankind. He applied His work of salvation to this man.
It is only when Christ applies His work that God the Father sent Him to do that men will see Christ and trust in Him.
Christ Jesus did this in person during His earthly ministry.
He reaches man’s heart today through the preaching of the gospel.
Christ is revealed in the Scriptures and applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit.
The Pharisees did not realize their own spiritual blindness. They thought that they had 20/20 spiritual vision. After all, they were the Jewish Bible Answer men.
“Jesus said to them, ‘If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, “We see.” Therefore your sin remains.’ ” John 9:41 NKJV
Do you realize your blindness and your need to be given spiritual sight by Jesus?
If so, you can say with the blind man “By the grace of Christ, I once was blind, but now I see.” and you will worship the King.
