“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:13 NKJV
God’s word will expose us for who we really are. It will show us that we cannot hide from God, as Adam and Eve did in the garden. The word of God will reveal our thoughts and intents of our heart as we read it.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
The psalmist says that God has created us, and sustains us by His providence. There is nowhere that we can go beyond His presence, for He is everywhere present in this world and in our lives.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.” Psalm 139:7-12 NKJV
We must all appear before His judgment seat and give account for our lives. If we do not have the righteousness of Christ credited to us, we have only a fearful expectation of God’s vengeance against us for our sin.
“For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:30 NKJV
If Christ has born your sin when He offered up His life on the cross, you will be formally and fully acquitted in this day of judgement. You have the hope of glory set before you and you can eagerly wait for His second coming to glorify His elect ones.
If you are not united to Christ by faith, however, you will only have the fearful dread and expectation of His judgment as His second coming.
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJV
Hear God’s voice in His word today, and flee to Christ for salvation.
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7 NKJV
There remains an eternal rest for those who place their trust in Christ.
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.” Hebrews 4:9 NKJV
“For we who have believed do enter that rest.” Hebrews 4:3 NKJV
It is Christ Jesus who promises rest if you will come to Him by faith.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NKJV
