“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.’” (Rev 21:3-4 NKJV)
From the moment of Adam’s sin in the garden this world has been under the curse of death. Pain, suffering, decay, and evil entered into creation at that moment and has been part of our lives ever since. That is why the Gospel begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation. It carefully and lovingly explains the current state of the world and promises, in Christ and through Christ, a better world to come. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not merely that in Him you are a new creation, but rather in Him there is a new creation! It doesn’t merely transform your heart, but is the promise of an entirely new, perfect, sinless world. Christ’s resurrection is the first fruits, the down payment, the proof of God’s sure and certain plan to establish a new Heavens and a new Earth.
Revelation presents a clear and glorious picture of what is to come. Christ will return in glory to judge the wicked and establish the righteous forever in Him. In this new world established on the foundation of Jesus’ blood and righteousness God Himself will comfort us. That comfort will be so complete and effective that the tears which He wipes from our eyes will never again return. For never again will we know what it is like to be apart from Him, in opposition to Him, or suffering the consequences of our own sins. The comfort that Christ will grant to His chosen people in the world to come is permanent and our joy will be everlasting. In the midst of the trials and sufferings of this world, strive to keep your eyes focused on the glories that are promised in Jesus Christ. The joys and pleasures that we know now in Christ are but the tiniest portion of what is to come! His resurrection is the proof of your resurrection to come and with that new life and new body will come a new world and eternal peace in Him. Brothers and sisters, long for that glorious day!
